Over the years, the province of Bali in Indonesia has taken up a top position on many people’s bucket lists, and we can totally see how it got there. They do call it The Island of the Gods after all.

Bali is paradise for those with a sense of adventure. Its immaculate beaches, vibrant culture, insanely tasty culinary scene, and fantastic family attractions make it a truly world-class destination. 

When we say there is something for everyone on the island, we mean it. Surfers, beach bums, party people, foodies, the kiddos and the more zen types will fall in love with this little slice of paradise. You’ll be coming back for more, for sure. 

Here are some of our favorite things to do and places to visit on your Balinese break: 

So when you think Bali, you think Beaches, and rest assured there’s a ton of them to choose from. They each have their own flavor but all are absolutely stunning. Here’s a (very) short list of beaches and what you can expect:

• Seminyak Beach – stunning views of the sunset and the ocean are here! Also, the beaches in Seminyak have some of the best resorts and bars on the island.
• Nusa Dua Beach – jet-skiing, parasailing, banana boat rides, and diving are some of the activities this spot is famous for. 
• Echo Beach (Canggu) – one of Bali’s most popular surf spots. Lots of beautiful people out to catch that perfect wave.
• Jimbaran Bay – pristine golden beaches and clear calm waters, this is where you go and chill out.
• Thomas Beach – a 200-meter stretch of soft white sand, rolling turquoise waves, and shady beach umbrellas, this is the perfect spot for a day of swimming and beach bumming.

Temples There are many temples on the island. That said, the Besakih Temple is the biggest and holiest temple on Bali and is surrounded by breathtaking and scenic nature, including rice paddies, hills, mountains, rivers and jungles. For the Balinese visiting Besakih Temple is a special pilgrimage, so make sure you stay respectful when visiting. The Kecak dances here are mesmerizing!

Mama San A Bali dining institution featuring classic Vietnamese, Thai, and Cantonese fare, is located in Seminyak and features a nostalgic atmosphere reminiscent of 1920s Shanghai. The bone-in crispy confit pig hock has long been a fan favorite. Their classic cocktail list is perfect for those balmy Balinese nights (we particularly recommend their Elderflower Martini!)

The Rock Bar at the Ayana Resort This oceanfront setting feels dramatic and peaceful at the same time. It’s quite simply epic. Definitely right up there with the best spots in the world to watch the sunset. Yasuhiro Koichi of Japan's Design Studio SPIN created the creative, simple design of the bar by utilizing the inherent characteristics and natural formation of the rock on which it is perched. Beyond the view, this is an all-round 5-star experience, the proof’s in the incredible cocktails. 

Jungle Retreat by Kupu Kupu Barong High up in the jungle around the picturesque village of Kedewatan in Ubud you’ll find 40 beautiful suites and views that go on for miles. Whether from your room, the pool or its two stunning restaurants, the vistas are the visual equivalent of a symphony orchestra. To say “wow” doesn’t even begin to do this place justice.
