Sustainable Travel – Seeing the world and doing it eco-friendly is easier than ever
Seeing the world while helping to keep it green and happy doesn’t need to be difficult. There are some great ways for each of us to do our part. At shoopit, we love to travel, if we can do it sustainably, all the better!
At shoopit, travel runs through our veins. There’s nothing quite like the feelings around setting off on holiday. From packing (yes seriously) to catching that first glimpse of your destination when the plane is coming in to land, to waking up on your first morning to a beautiful change of scenery. We love it all.
Our incredible planet is slowly opening up to travel after the mayhem of the last couple of years. The downside to this opening up, is that carbon footprints are once more on the rise and as a result, our planet’s health is once more at risk. With raging wildfires in the US and record-breaking temperatures being ubiquitous this summer, the (sad) proof is in the very hot pudding.
Enter, Sustainable Travel. No need to stop traveling to save the planet. We just need to keep sustainability in mind, and act accordingly. So, what does this mean in practice?
According to a poll conducted by Ipsos, there’s a thirst for being more green that’s growing. The most popular sustainable thing travelers said they’d be open to adopting is picking accommodation with a green certification (43%). Although there’s overall reluctance to spend more to be green, there’s a growing awareness that a difference can be made by individual travelers.
Testament is that 46% of travelers would be happy to volunteer for NGOs at their destination - giving up their time during their holiday to make a difference in local communities’ lives by supporting them either financially or by contributing to a social project on the ground.
